3 Mandarin along the canal between the World of Glass and the St Helens Chamber buildings this morning. All superficially in 'female-type' plumage but at least one was a drake in eclipse plumage.

Friday 4th August 30 Great Crested Grebe of which at least 4 were juvenile; 116 Mallard; 96 Canada Goose (70 flying and 26 flightless).

Rainford Bypass Barn Owl
I had an amazing view of a barn owl in full light last night (8.00 pm) whilst driving towards Eccleston on the Rainford Bypass. I saw it from a distance in a field on the left and then I as I got nearer, it flew right in front of the car holding a mouse/vole in its talons! I'll not forget that in a while!
